Please note by popular demand I have finally decided to revise and expand The Jealous Flock. I will be adding about 30K words. the current version is now The Abridged Jealous Flock. A novella that dares to peek behind the curtain of 2017. Forced from their collective comfort zone, all three members of Martin’s family come face to face with the realities that underpin their urbane way of life. Each is faced with a paradox that will test their belief in themselves and their image of the tolerant, liberal society they believe they inhabit. A Literary Epic in Miniature, The Jealous Flock takes readers from the cloistered air of Professional London through the harsh realities of the Middle East and on to the culture war simmering beneath the surface in Australia. Through their interwoven narratives each character tries to grapple with change as they question their authenticity and value as individuals amidst The Jealous Flock. Of all contemporary fiction novels, this one will linger with you long after you put it down.

The Jealous Flock Ashley Borodin Books

As the 5 star rating says, I loved it and it was just the right length to read in an afternoon. It is short but don't let that detract you from what is some wonderful contemporary fiction written by a superb author. Characterization and social commentary were the really strong points for me and contributed to a superb narrative. Loved the multiple plot threads and how they all came together and loved the ending!

The Jealous Flock Ashley Borodin Books Reviews

I found this book to be so ridiculous I could not get even halfway through it. I just stopped reading it. Why waste my time?
The author has provided me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest book review so at first, I would like to thanks the author. ‘The Jealous Flocks’ seems an unusual title for me as I have never come across with this kind of title but after reading the blurb of the book I was excited to read this book and found it really interesting.

Plot summary
The book starts with the morning routine of Martin’s family, his wife Doris and son John. Then the book moves to independent narratives of the protagonists as how each one of is struggling to break the routine and eager to learn something new.
The protagonist goes to the different countries and learns things which are totally different from their comfort zone. Their view on the different happening is something fascinating to read.
In between, you can meet different characters which help to develop the story. I personally loved the narrative of Randall.
Read this book to know what each of them earns and experiences from their travel and how it helps them to groom in a better way.

Writing style
The book is segregated in the narratives of the characters which are very amazing to read. The language is easy and this book runs to the 99 pages so you can finish it in some hours.

My perception
This book was quick read including various human perspectives. This book teaches how one needs to look beyond their own ideologies and thinking. I must say that this book is for the serious readers as this doesn’t include any flavor of the regular book. But if you want to read something different yet concluding then this is definitely for you! This book travels from various thinking, ideas, and minds which make it a class apart. Recommend reading!
The poem on the wall speaks to Martin of beauty and mystery. It allow our entry into the family's world.

Martin has a decision to make. He is not sure what to do, but resolve wins, and he knows. A family breakfast, not quite a happy scene. This beginning brings the reader into the swirl of the family. This novel is an intense look into the lives and especially the inner-workings of the main characters. It is what distinguished this story. It is character driven, combining thoughts and relationships that project the humanity of the players. Seeing darkly may at times be seeing clearly. Broadly, the lives of the characters are reflective of the lives of most of us.

The author has an introspective style that leaves a taste that traverses the surface. At times, I detected a poetic beat. Reviewed by the author of The Children's Story, About Good and Evil.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The Jealous Flock A Literary Epic in Miniature by Ashley Borodin is a thoughtful novel that skillfully entwines the lives of Martin and Doris and their about to be an adult son John. The three of them live together in an English home with a white picket fence. I enjoyed this book, mainly due to the subtle shifts in relationships between the main characters and the telling of the story by three different narrators. Each had a very distinct voice, which is frequently not the case when a less skilled author attempts it. Change is a key theme in this tale with shifting roles and responsibilities for all John quits his job to explore a career as a photographer in Australia, Martin travels to Afghanistan to attempt to bring peace to the war-torn county, and Doris is left at home facing her own career and life challenges. Despite the potentially heavy and emotional tones, it is a quick and enjoyable read.
I found the book difficult to read and understand the message. I did like how the author divided the chapters with main character's names, which helped me to follow the plot. Within certain chapters I followed the storyline well and understood the message, but then another chapter would leave me confused.
